The Marines of the past and present have earned the right for a change. Not giving the Marine Corps departmental recognition has been a shame and the change should be overwhelmingly approved. I don't know why it must be combined with the Navy, but this is a start in the right direction. Thank you Rep. Walter Jones. Semper Fidelis!

As a proud US Marine Corps veteran, I have gladly signed the Petition for amending the name of the Dept. of the Navy to the Dept. of the Navy and Marine Corps.

The USMC was established by America's Founding Fathers as an integral part of the US Navy, and the Marine Corps will always be the smaller -- elite -- part of the greater whole. Historically, Marines are Naval infantry -- with roots going back to antiquity. The relationship of the Marine Corps to the Navy must be ever cherished, never demeaned.

Pride in the the US Marine Corps, NEVER means the defamation of other branches of the US Armed Forces -- let alone our own Navy Family. We are Americans, by God's Providence. No Patriot would ever impugn the the honour of his fellow countrymen who have faithfully served the USA. Any person claiming to be a Marine, who doesn't LOVE THE US NAVY or who demeans the other US Armed Forces, should be recycled back to boot camp until he/she is TRULY SQUARED AWAY! OOOOORAAAAHHH!

I also come from a very Proud Family of Marines I also retired from the Marine corp in 1993 21 years of service to our Great Country. I have a Daughter in the Marines and have two son laws on active duty as well.
Yes we need to have our own service seperate from the Dept of the Navy.
I would like to see the Marine Corps recognized as an offical branch of the Armed Forces for every Marine Brother and Sister we lost in combat.

I am the Grandson of a WWI Marine, the son of a WWII Marine, the Nephew of a WWII Marine, who fought on Guadal Canal, and the proud Father of a Marine who now serves. I believe it is time that the Marine Corp be recognized as a separate service.

I feel that this change is terribly overdue. The Marine Corps has lost far more Marines in combat than the Navy has. And I would like to see the Marines recognized as a separate branch from the Navy. I've heard Navy men call our fine fighting men (Marines) pussy's. I was a Woman Marine and now a member of the MCL. and the D.A.V. Our men are the finest! ! ! The Marines should have its own ships, hospitals and medical personel.
Most people I know do not realize that the Marine Corps is even a branch of the Navy. When I tell them that, they are really angry and say our Marines deserve better.

I have always been proud of being a Marine and continue to honor
the Corps by being a life member of the Marine Corps League and
also The Military Order of Devil Dogs. I believe it is time that we
are recognized as a separate branch of the military.
