R. Lee Ermey, the famous drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket, and an all-around supporter of the U.S. military, spoke at a press conference Feb. 25, 2010 to highlight the need to pass two bills that would change the name of the Department of the Navy to the “Department of the Navy and Marine Corps.”

Ermey, or “Gunny” as he’s known by most fans, talked about how parents of fallen Marines receive letters from the Department of the Navy…with no mention of the Marine Corps name in the letterhead.

“We don’t want to take anything away from our brothers and sisters in the Navy,” Gunny said. “The only thing we want is for future Marines who shed blood for their country to at least (receive) honorable mention in the department that they fall under.”

Gunny promised a full-fledged push for the cause. He also questioned how anyone could look a wounded Marine in the face and question the validity of the name change.
“I just don’t think there is a justifiable reason.”

God bless everyone who publically supports this honorable cause. P.S. I don’t think God would be offended with the name change so why would the Dept. Of Navy!
