Sgt. James “Eddie” Wright, a Marine veteran who was seriously injured in Iraq in 2004 when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade, spoke at a press conference Feb. 25 on why he supports HR 24 and S.504. The bills would change the name of the Department of the Navy to the “Department of the Navy and Marine Corps.”

Wright said supporters of these bills have nothing against the Navy. In fact, he recounted how training and medical treatment he received from the Navy saved his life.

“If it wasn’t for the Navy,” Wright said, “I wouldn’t be standing here today.”
